Why is
eServer unique? |
A lot of other companies sell so-called "server appliances" that perform some or many of the same functions as the eServer and gateway - e-mail, file-sharing, web hosting and so on. Generally speaking, these are excellent products, but experience tells us there are two significant problems with most server appliances: |
First, most server appliances are based on proprietary hardware, which means they aren't particularly flexible. If you want to add memory or a larger hard drive, you may well be locked into dealing with a single vendor. If there's a hardware failure, it's highly unlikely that your local computer reseller will be able to help you. Second, most server appliances use proprietary software, even if the underlying operating system is not proprietary. That means they are difficult or impossible to modify or adapt to your particular circumstances. Once again, your hands are tied.
